Each festival has its own significance. Halloween is a holiday celebration with lots of fun. It is celebrated on 31st October each year. Among many festivals celebrated around the world, Halloween has its own significance. Halloween is very popular among young and old alike. For older people it is a day to remember ancestors and departed souls. On the other hand, Halloween is a day to scare others for younger generation.

Idea behind celebrating Halloween is a belief that dead could walk back to the life and people can actually acquire about their future year. People used to wore animal heads and other costumes in order to scare bad and evil spirits. This activity has become an integral part of this festival.
Origin of Halloween comes from imported immigrant customs. It is alleged that this festival has Celtic roots and is related to ancient Celtic recognized as “Samhain” most commonly known in parts of Ireland and Scotland. To celebrate this festival Celts used to burn:
  • Heaps of fruits
  • Heaps of vegetables
  • Heaps of grain
  • Heaps of animals
They use these items as gifts to God in order to obtain their blessings for a fruitful and happy new year. After fame of Christianity to Celtic lands, festival of Halloween has been gracefully accepted. This day is accepted to memorize the spirits of saints and martyrs.

In order to celebrate this festival, people plan every year for their costumes to be worn. Most popular costumes for Halloween are:

  • Vampires
  • Devils
People look for inventive ideas where it comes for costumes. Cartoon characters and action figures are becoming more popular as inspirations behind costumes. Magazines and books are good source to generate ideas for costumes to be worn at Halloween festival.
