Dental receptionist serves variety of administrative and customer service functions within dentist’s office. Any certification or training is not required to hire a dental receptionist although his job specifications and specific duties may vary from office to office. Scheduling and Billing
They have an accountability to schedule appointments for patients both in person and over the phone. They may be responsible in some cases to submit payment requests to insurance companies, collecting payments from patients and reconciling patient’s accounts.
Primary Customer Contact
As a dental receptionist is first staff member that a patient meets when arriving to dentist so it is basic responsibility of receptionist to deal patients. They greet patients, record their presence, verify if any personal or insurance information has changed since last visit and notify office staff of patient’s arrival.
Communication
To serve as intermediaries among patients and dentist is included in duty list of a dental receptionist. Duties in this regard are:

  • Answering questions
  • Updating staff about changes in day’s schedule
Administrative Duties
He may be responsible for:
  • Ordering dental supplies and equipments
  • Recording bank accounts
  • Making deposits
  • Typing letters or other correspondence on behalf of dentist
  • Making photocopies and faxes
Records
Dental receptionists are accountable for organizing, accessing and filling patient dental records and charts in some offices. They may also have duty of updating them when necessary. Along with all these duties, writing out dentist’s notes concerning visits and provided services will be included in his duties lists.
