Most of the people like to store beautiful wine labels but do not know proper way of doing this so they either save bottle or try to remove labels with inappropriate method and as a result they get a torn and spoiled label. Are you also facing the same problem? Read this post as it will not only help you to remove and store wine labels but also you will come to know about different types of labels.
Firstly, you should know what type of label you have on your wine bottles. For your help and guidance, I would like to inform you that there are two types of labels: glossy labels that are in form of stickers and paper labels that are glued on bottles. Sticker labels can be peeled off with the help of fingernail or razor blade but when it comes to remove paper labels, it becomes somewhat difficult and tricky. For these types of labels, you are required to follow some simple but effective methods:
- First and perhaps the easiest method to remove wine labels is to fill empty wine bottle with water and then soaking it in a large pot. After 20 to 30 minutes, place bottle in freezer after emptying it. Keep bottle in freezer for a night and you will see moist label will freeze and then it will be easily removed from bottle.
- Another method is blow dryer method but this does not work on paper labels but proves to be very effective for sticker labels. The method is quite simple. All you need to do is to heat the label equally with your blow dryer for five minutes. Then use your fingernails or razor to remove label. To prevent the label from tearing, you will be required to stop from time to time to reheat label.
- Last method to remove labels from wine bottles is called the boiling water method. In this method, firstly fill bottle with hot tap water and then place it in stock container. After that, fill that container with hot tap water one or two inches above the label which you want to remove. Now place the container over medium heat. You will see label floating to the top of water within 30 to 45 minutes but this time may vary depending on the adhesive used for pasting labels. If label doesn’t remove then pour out hot water from the container and use a razor blade to remove label. Take care while doing this and make sure that you start removing the label from top corner down to bottom corner.
Storing Labels
After removing labels from bottles, next step is to store them properly. Labels will still have some adhesive or glue on them so you can use it for your advantage and paste labels on resume paper or card stock. After that, place label between two heavy objects like books and leave them for a night so that label can retain its shape. Now you can frame label or add it to your photo album.
Another method to store wine labels is to sprinkle flour on back of labels just after removing them. Shake label to remove any extra flour and place it between two weighty books for a night. Now you can store the label in the way you want.
