Times gone by Santa Clause


Santa Claus is a significant part of Christmas festive. Everyone is well aware of Santa Claus especially kids as he comes up with plenty of gifts for kids. He is known by different names among children. Popularity of Santa Claus among children is due to his big bag full of gifts along with neatly packing each gift under joint supervision of Mrs. Claus. Strong perception about Santa is that he tours around the world to grant every child’s wish and lives in North Pole. Everyone is interested to know much more than described and wants to know the origin of Santa where did Santa come from?
St. Nicholas was a priest. He was born in 220AD in Italy. He was a wealthy man and was famous to share his wealth with less fortunates. Most of the time, he had been seen helping children. He was a passionate person and didn’t want to gain recognition he received for his generosity. Due to this passion, he started leaving gifts secretly for children after dark. Hence, the custom was born of parents telling their kids to go to sleep or St. Nicholas would not come and bring them presents. St. Nicholas became so admired that by the 1400s there were over 2000 chapels and monasteries named in his honor.
In 1770 St. a Claus came on scene in America through advertising efforts while Puritans banned St. Nicholas along with Christmas celebrations and hymns. After it in 1812, Washington Irving inscribed a book featuring St. Nicholas who had now become one and same with Santa Claus.
In order to promote concept and awareness of Santa Claus, a poem 1821 by William Gilley was written. “The night before Christmas” the poem 1822 perchance is the most accountable for giving people picture of Santa individuals have in their minds. This poem featured a story of jolly old man in red driving a team of 8 reindeers and handing out Christmas gifts to entire world. He enters in home via chimney and leaves presents without being seen.
In 1920s, Santa was firmly stamped on America’s awareness as a fat, old, white haired man with a beard who laughs with a “ho, ho, ho”.
Kids around the world love to welcome gifts at Christmas time. They have different perceptions about gifts as some think that gifts come from Santa Claus, some from a witch and some from a Dutch Saint. Everybody identify Santa Claus as icon of holiday. Santa`s list template is also very popular list template as far as Santa Claus is concerned.
