Conducting parent conference is extremely important for good relationship with parents of kids . Conducting conference with parents helps both parents and teachers to identify educational goals for students/kids. They can better understand what is best for kids. Often it becomes overwhelming and unpleasant for struggling parents to have effective meeting with teachers. That’s why here are some tips for parent conferences that should be arranged by teacher. Teachers must open door and welcome parents to share with educational and personality grooming of their kids.
Follow these tips:
- Prepare send-home invitation for parents about up coming conference. In conference invitation, state purpose of conducting meeting and issues to be discussed in conference. When you send invite to parents, consider the situation that many kids come from single parent. You will have to arrange combine interview with single parents or meet them separately depends upon the situation or parent’s decision.
- Be positive to start meeting or conference with parents, smile and thank them for coming. Start conference with positive remarks on their child and tell them about one of child’s strength and ask parent to enhance it.
- State your rules, routines and homework policies to parents. Ask them if they have any question about all this.
- Now come to discuss child’s preferred learning and focus on discussing your areas of concern. For example, child is weak in writing; ask parents how they can help in improving child’s writing. If you have complains about child’s behavior, discuss them with parents and ask them to focus on strategies to correct child’s behavior.
- During conference, try to make parents feel that you are fully interested in child’s grooming and want to resolve issues of child. Also remind the parents that your goals are shared and both you can do best for child.
- End conference with thanks and remind parents that they are fully involved in child’s grooming and correction. Say them doors are always open for coming to discuss child’s issues in a positive way. Remind them their positive attitude towards attending conferences can grow their child academically and socially.
- Set a time frame for follow up visit or phone call to ask about their child. Agree to send home-notes about child’s performance in the class.
