If you are supervising a project then you will definitely know the importance of a status report. A status report is actually prepared to keep all team members informed about the status of work. Team members get motivated when they know about their work and its progress therefore writing a status report is of great significance. Writing a status report is not as simple as it looks to be because it is an important document and it should be written using an acceptable format. To make a status report in a proper format, you will need to follow some simple tips. Although there are different types of status reportsbut here I am going to share tips to write a project status report:
  • First step is to make sure that you have clearly defined goals about the project in front of you. If you are working on a large project, then you will know that a lot of people are involved in it so a status report should cover all those people who are working on the project to achieve project goals.
  • Next, you will have to authenticate that the report, which you are going to prepare, has a proper format. You will also require verifying the time period which a status report should cover. Then consult with your team how often they require a status report to be created. Make the report and take care of its format.
  • While writing a status report, start with providing a general synopsis of project and also describe what goals your team has achieved as of reporting date. If you have faced any difficulties, problems and issues, do mention them along with the process you used to resolve these issues.
  • After that, discuss next steps which you want to take in future regarding your project. Along with these steps, you will also mention the proposed time frame to carry out these steps. Here you will also have to mention if you have planned to make some changes in original project budget or its whole plan. These details are important to mention as they help in attaining project goals.
  • Now we will move towards the end of report. A project status report should be ended with a positive note along with a statement of confidence in your abilities and your team’s proficiency to complete project within time and resources. Don’t forget to mention your contact details along with an offer to follow up in order to discuss report in detail.
Follow these steps and tips to write a status report. Following these tips will help you a lot in preparing an effective and well-written report.
